Housing

There is a wide variety of both cooking and non-cooking cabins. RMBL Administration has ultimate authority to assign housing. Priority may be given to those who fill a cabin to capacity for the longest time period. In any case, the Administration reserves the right to make the best fit between needs and availability. Rental fees are calculated from the first day of arrival to the final departure date; individuals will be charged even for days during which they are gone unless they have completely moved out of the building and made prior arrangements with the Director of Finance and Operations. Individuals who stay in non-cooking cabins will be charged for eating in the dining hall if the dining hall is open. See “Changing Dates” on the Rates and Fees page for the policy on shortening stays. RMBL does not guarantee that all features of a cabin (e.g., toilet, shower, hot water) are fully functional; reductions in fees will not be granted except under exceptional circumstances, and only by written request to the RMBL Executive Director.  The Director shall have final say on whether exceptional circumstances merit a reduction in fees.

As part of our continued process to improve our infrastructure, RMBL is now faced with stringent wood stove regulations. In the beginning of the 2012 summer season we are required to review our wood stoves, which will lead to the removal and replacement of numerous wood stoves. Some of the cabins will not be available in the early and late summer season, which will result in RMBL having to move users into different cabins during this time. Please read the memo here for more details to aid you in selecting your housing options.

An asterisk (*) indicates that a scientist has exclusive use of a cabin and that it is not available for housing, except by permission of that scientist. If you are new to RMBL, it would be good to elaborate on your housing needs, such as hot water, indoor toilet, etc when you submit your application. Note: Avery, Gates, and Rogers-Boggs cabins may only be available from June 1st to Aug 31st. These cabins are reserved for winter caretaker use.
