From Gunnison to Gothic: see map

Directions to Gothic from Gunnison: Follow Highway 135 north 28 miles from Gunnison to Crested Butte. Upon entering Crested Butte, proceed through the 4-way-stop at the intersection at Elk Avenue and follow the highway (also called Gothic Road or County Road 317) up the mountain past the ski area and through Mt. Crested Butte (4 miles). The road will change from paved to dirt as you leave Mt. Crested Butte. Follow it another 4 miles into Gothic.

Gothic is a 5-hour drive from Denver or Colorado Springs and a 4-hour drive from Grand Junction. Please note that you cannot drive through Marble to get to RMBL. Mapquest currently says you can, but the route is a difficult 4-wheel drive road. Check the RMBL Ride Board (see below) if you need a ride or are willing to offer one.

RMBL offers an online Ride Board service. You can post to this ride board, or check it if you need a ride. Be sure to include details such as your name, phone/email, dates, departure city and travel route.

Fly

If you fly into the Denver International Airport (250 mi./5 hrs from Gothic) there is bus service between DIA and Gunnison. See details below under "BUS". There are also car rentals available from Denver to Gunnison. Once in Gunnison you can also ride an Alpine Express van to Gothic for approx. $75.00 round-trip or $40 one-way, and prices decrease with additional passengers.

United Airlines serves the nearby Gunnison Airport (34 miles/50 min. from Gothic). Flights come mainly from Denver, and are generally expensive. However, some times of the year the fares are reasonable, so check it out. Check under SHUTTLES for using the RMBL van for travel from Gunnison to Gothic. If you plan to arrive or depart on different dates (other than RMBL shuttle dates), you must make your own arrangements. Alpine Express offers shuttle service from Gunnison to Gothic for approx. $75.00 round-trip or $40 one-way.

Montrose
After Gunnison, the next closest airport is located in Montrose (70 miles/1.5 hours from Gunnison). Flights into Montrose come mainly from Denver. We do not recommend flying into Montrose as there is NO RMBL shuttle service from Montrose to Gunnison. If you do fly into Montrose, there are car rentals from Montrose to Gunnison, and Alpine Express does offer a Charter Bus service for approximately $200 round-trip or $120 one-way. Prices decreases with additional passengers with a minimum of 2 passengers. In these cases, transportation from Gunnison to Gothic still needs to be arranged.

Aspen
No shuttles are available from Aspen. If you drive from Aspen do not try to drive through Marble. Mapquest currently gives a route to RMBL through Aspen, but the route through Marble is a difficult 4-wheel drive road.

Suggestions: If you plan to fly to/from Denver and use the bus service to/from Gunnison, please arrange your flights accordingly to make the connection.

Bus
There is bus service between Gunnison and Denver, CO. The service is operated by Blackhills Stage Lines, and cost is approx. $33.85 one-way.

Gunnison to Denver:

• Travel Time: 4 hr 55 min       Total Distance: 214 miles
• Depart from Gunnison Powerstop, 905 N. Main St, Gunnison at 6:20 AM
• Arrive at Denver Greyhound Station ("Denver Bus Center"), 1055 19th St, at 11:15 AM (note: there are hourly connections from the Denver Bus Center to Denver International Airport - see details below.)

Denver to Gunnison:

• Travel Time: 4 hr 50 min             Total Distance: 214 miles
• Depart from Denver Greyhound Station ("Denver Bus Center"), 1055 19th St, at 2:00 PM
• Arrive at Gunnison Powerstop, 905 N. Main St, Gunnison at 6:50 PM

Traveling between Denver Bus Center and Denver International Airport:
Hourly bus service is available. Note: this bus is different from the Blackhills Stage Lines bus. It is operated by the Denver RTD or "SkyRide" system, the bus schedule is online and is the "AF" line between Denver Bus Center and DIA. Or call the RTD # at 303-299-6000. This bus trip takes approx. 1 hour, and the cost is $12.00 one-way. (It is possible this service may be free - show them your Gunnison ticket.) Please plan accordingly.

Gunnison-Gothic Shuttle
The RMBL Shuttle van between Gunnison and Gothic is designed around the arrival and departure dates of students. Others may ride the shuttles, if seats are available, but your dates must correspond with the dates given below.

We will provide shuttle service between Gunnison and Gothic on the following dates ONLY:

• Sunday, June 9 (pickup for 10-week session Students/REUs)
• Friday, August 16 (return to Gunnison)

In order to be picked up in Gunnison you must:

1. Fill out a Travel Form. This form must be received by May 1st or we may not be able to offer you shuttle service.
2. We will make at least one trip to Gunnison on the shuttle date. Try to schedule your arrival and departure as late in the day as possible and be prepared to be flexible as you will have to work around the flight schedules of the other riders.

If you plan to arrive or depart on different dates, you must make your own arrangements. Alpine Express offers shuttle service from Gunnison to Gothic for approx. $75.00 round-trip or $40 one-way. Price decreases with additional passengers.
