Geology Van Tour

July 16, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm MDT

Travel through time without a time machine! On your van tour, you will explore the beautiful landscapes around Crested Butte while learning about the last 2 billion years of Earth’s history. The area around Crested Butte is geologically fascinating, featuring some of the most diverse geology and distinctive landscapes in the entire state of Colorado. Geology van tours will visit different locations each time, based on weather, access, and participant interests. You won’t want to miss this unique tour! Your tour guide Dr. Amy Ellwein, has been studying geology in the area since the early 1990

Each van tour includes several stops with some light hiking to examine rock outcrops or assemble at viewing locations. Light hiking will occur along gravel roads and dirt paths. Please consider bringing a small day pack, drinking water, snack, sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, rain jacket, and sturdy footwear. Journals, cameras, and binoculars are also encouraged.  Tours are for adults – and for kids age 8 and over accompanied by an adult.

Tuesday tour dates: June 25th, July 16th, July 30th, and August 13th. Special Geobotany tours on July 9th and July 10th through the Wildflower Festival.

For questions please email events@rmbl.org or phone Erin Fabbre at 970-349-7420.
