What is the RMBL Community Portal and how do I request housing?
The RMBL Community Portal allows researchers and RMBL community members to arrange and manage many aspects of their RMBL activity under one online account, including project submission, housing reservations at Gothic and RMBL 365, trainings, meal reservations at Gothic, and much more coming soon. Located in the upper-right corner of every page. Summer Housing Applications for Gothic and RMBL 365 will open in mid-February in the RMBL Community Portal. How do I sign up for meals in Gothic?
If you are interested in signing up for meals at Gothic please see our Dining at RMBL-Gothic page.
Please note: Meals are only available at Gothic campus. Meal sign-ups must be completed through the RMBL Community Portal under Community Actions → Submit a Meal Reservation at least 24 hours in advance. Even if you selected meals when you requested housing or registered for the summer, you must still sign up for the specific days and meals you plan to attend. Meal Reservations allow the Dining Hall staff to plan accurate quantities and reduce food waste.

About Gothic Campus Housing
Gothic is a rustic, high-altitude field station. Housing at Gothic includes approximately 70 rustic cabins, tents, and weatherports. Staying at Gothic is similar to a summer camp experience, with accommodations varying in amenities. Some cabins may feature hot water, an indoor toilet, a pit toilet, shower, or a kitchen (cooking cabin), while others have no running water, toilet, or kitchen facilities and rely on shared community toilets, showers, and the dining hall.

Based upon a review of cabin occupancy prompted by Gunnison County in 2018, we have decided to eliminate the use of lofts for sleeping in the cabins listed in this Memo. Our analysis, which included analyzing the International Building Code as well as accepted best practices for existing and historic structures, included the status of stairs to the loft, the ability to exit from the second story in case of an emergency, and the headspace in the loft.
Summer Housing and Fall Water Shut Off
Due to some cabins having inadequate insulation or heat, certain cabins will not be available outside of the window of June 1 – August 24 without select permission from the Director of Administration: Beanpod, East River, Paradise, Pelton, Schofield, Swallow’s Nest, Sylvanite, and Virginia. In addition, conditions permitting, our non-winterized water lines will be turned off in the townsite at the beginning of September. Residents can either request a housing change or live in cabins without running water.
Camping Spots at Maxfield Meadow
Two designated camping spots are available for use at the Maxfield Meadow – a research meadow about 1 mile south of the field station. This is RMBL’s private land and there are no facilities. We will first look for housing options within the Gothic Townsite. If no room is available in any of the Gothic cabins, we may assign a camping spot at Maxfield Meadow in agreement with the user. Each camping spot is assigned, marked, and the ground may be bumpy and sloppy. We have set up a camping toilet to use. Every user will need to check-in and check out with the Administration Office. Upon departure from the campsite, leave it as you find it, remove all trash, and empty the camping toilet.
There is no charge other than the daily station fees (see more info under station fees). One marked parking spot is available adjacent to the camping site. This parking spot can be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Any other residents will need to park in Gothic. Regular parking fees apply. If you are interested in this option, please indicate so in your application.
