Detailed Cabin Information

Please use the sortable chart below to find the best cabin options for your stay in Gothic. We will look at the choices on your application and do our best to match you with your preference or a comparable option.

Please Note:

Housing assignments are subject to change at any time based on needs and availability. If arrival/departure dates need to be updated, please email admin@rmbl.org. The Administration Office reserves the right to make the best fit between needs and availability. A description of our housing assignment process and other notes on housing can be found here.

If you are new to RMBL, it would be good to elaborate on your housing wants, such as hot water, indoor toilet, etc. when you submit your application. We also recommend that you read about our Housing Assignment Process to give you some background on how assignments are made. The majority of housing is shared housing, meaning that most residents will have cabinmates and/or roommates.

Gates and Rogers-Boggs cabins may only be available from June 1st to September 30th. These cabins are reserved for winter caretaker use.

Cabins without established heating (ESH) are only available between June 1 and August 24 without written permission from the Director of Administration (admin@rmbl.org).

Additional Information

RMBL does not guarantee that all features of a cabin (e.g., toilet, shower, hot water) are fully functional; cabins are rustic and there will be critters in cabins, such as insects, mice and bats. Reductions in fees will not be granted except under exceptional circumstances, and only by written request to the RMBL Chief Operating Officer (COO). The COO shall have the final say on whether exceptional circumstances merit a reduction in fees.

Based upon a review of cabin occupancy prompted by Gunnison County in 2018, we have decided to eliminate the use of lofts for sleeping in the cabins listed in this Memo. Our analysis, which included analyzing the International Building Code as well as accepted best practices for existing and historic structures, included the status of stairs to the loft, the ability to exit from the second story in case of an emergency, and the headspace in the loft.

Camping Spots at Maxfield Meadow

Two designated camping spots are available for use at the Maxfield Meadow – a research meadow about 1 mile south of the field station. This is RMBL’s private land and there are no facilities. We will first look for housing options within the Gothic Townsite. If no room is available in any of the Gothic cabins, we may assign a camping spot at Maxfield Meadow in agreement with the user.  Each camping spot is assigned, marked, and the ground may be bumpy and sloppy. We have set up a camping toilet to use. Every user will need to check-in and check out with the Administration Office. Upon departure from the campsite, leave it as you find it, remove all trash, and empty the camping toilet.

There is no charge other than the daily station fees (see more info under station fees). One marked parking spot is available adjacent to the camping site. This parking spot can be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Any other residents will need to park in Gothic. Regular parking fees apply. If you are interested in this option, please indicate so in your application.
