Student Scholarships

There is no need to apply for specific fellowships or scholarships, except to note qualifications for scholarships dedicated to a specific type of student (e.g. English/writing for Bill and Grace Calder Scholarship). Award decisions will be based on financial need and academic merit. You will be able to complete a financial aid form when completing the Coursework Application.

Please note: students receiving fellowship and scholarship funds are expected to maintain adequate progress in the summer program. Students will undergo a review mid-way through the summer to ensure that they are meeting program expectations. Students not in compliance will be asked to leave the field station at their own expense. Scholarships are not limited to particular educational programs, and you may apply to any combination of classes and still receive financial aid.

Harriet G. Barclay Scholarship Fund
An endowment fund established to honor Dr. Harriet Barclay, a long-time RMBL botanist and educator. Given annually to botany students.

Belfield-Watt Student Scholarship Fund
An endowment fund established to honor the grandparents of Ward Watt. Given annually to coursework students.

Bill and Grace Calder Scholarship
An endowment fund established by the Bill and Grace Calder Trust. Given annually to a female student majoring in English or journalism who wishes to take RMBL summer courses to increase her background in and exposure to science.

Fran Hunter Student Scholarship Fund
An endowment established in honor of former RMBL Director Dr. Fran Hunter. Given annually to graduate students or coursework students.

Keith Krakauer Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established by the friends and family of Keith as a memorial to him and his deep love of nature. The fund can also be used to help students who have spent time at the RMBL and want to return, either as a student, a research assistant, or as a first-year graduate student. There are two criteria for awarding the scholarship. First, it should be used to help students who, for whatever reason, might not otherwise be able to attend the RMBL. Second, it should be awarded to students for whom a summer at the RMBL will be particularly meaningful.

William Y. Inouye Scholarship Fund
An endowment fund established to honor the father of David Inouye. Given annually to an undergraduate student researcher.

Lee R.G. Snyder Memorial Scholarship Award
An endowment established in honor of RMBL graduate student researcher Lee Snyder. This competitive award is given annually to graduate student researchers.

Ralph Wardlaw Watt Student Scholarship Fund
An endowment established to honor of the father of Ward Watt. Given annually to coursework students.
