Project Eco-STEM (Grades 6-9)

2 spots remaining! Please email youthscience@rmbl.org if interested.

Are you curious?  Do you like to find answers about the way things work in our world? Do you care about helping others?  Do you like solving problems?  If you said yes to any of these questions, you have a lot in common with people who work as scientists and engineers!

Project Eco-STEM is a program designed for students entering sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth grades in the fall of 2024.  During the first few days of the course, we will spend time meeting professionals who have chosen careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields, and we’ll see how their work impacts the ecosystems around us. We will have the opportunity to become research assistants for a behind the scenes look at all things field science as we witness innovations, play with technologies, and try our hands with field research and design practices. With the guidance of trained professionals, you also have the chance to work individually or in small groups to design and execute your very own RMBL research projects!

Be prepared for spending your days primarily in outdoor field settings, which may require beautiful scenic hikes to access! Along the way we’ll dive into both inquiry questions and engineering opportunities in field science settings. As part of Project Eco-STEM, we will travel to locations outside of Gothic via the RMBL passenger van.

Registration Information:

In recent years at RMBL, we have found that camper demand exceeds our capacity. Instead of a first-come first-served registration, we have moved to a lottery process to enroll campers for the upcoming season. All campers, new and returning, are invited to enroll through this system.

Application Process: Parents/Guardians are asked to first complete the application during the open period of Jan.8th- Feb. 12th. If the program is not full after initial lottery period, you may still apply. *This application does not guarantee a spot in a session.

Priority will be given to students whose parent(s) or family members are RMBL scientists, staff or part of the RMBL community in other ways, and/or children who’ve participated in our science programs in previous years. Outside of those criteria, we will use a lottery system to fill remaining spots.

Initial admittance decisions and award decisions will be made within two weeks post application closing date (late Feb.). Once notified, you will have approximately two weeks to accept the spots and pay the $25 non-refundable registration fee and program fee, in order to secure your child’s spot.

Scholarships:  A limited supply of scholarship funds are available for the K-9 programs. If you need financial assistance, please complete the RMBL-Youth-Program-Scholarship-Application.
