Floodplain Research at RMBL

The Impacts of changes to hydrology on water quality

Sam Pierce, a Standford University PhD student, shares about his research project on floodplain hydrology and biogeochemistry in beaver-impacted systems. Understanding the chemical processes that occur in beaver-impacted wetlands is crucial to grasp what was lost when beavers were removed on such a large scale. This knowledge also helps predict how watersheds will respond as restoration efforts and beaver populations grow.

Listen in to learn how we can better understand the biogeochemical cycling of carbon and metals that occurs within beaver-impacted rivers and wetlands.
